Today is a great day! Today in Pastor Lawrences' class we learned that because of specific ideas, the ways of our culture is different. Take 911 for example. What do you think of? Everyone in class says "nine-eleven" or "nine one one". Why? The number is nine hundred and eleven. I realized that I missed alot of actual truths in school. Its not that my teachers were lying, or even the books are lying but they just didnt tell the truth. So what is the truth? Here is a great example that Pastor Lawrence brought. Who is St. Patrick? You always associate him with March 17th, but do you know the truth about him? Do you know why we associate drinking with him?
ABOUT SAINT PATRICK
Saint Patrick is believed to have been born in the late fourth century, and is often confused with Palladius, a bishop who was sent by Pope Celestine in 431 to be the first bishop to the Irish believers in Christ.Saint Patrick was the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland who is credited with bringing christianity to Ireland. Most of what is known about him comes from his two works, the Confessio, a spiritual autobiography, and his Epistola, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish christians. Saint Patrick described himself as a "most humble-minded man, pouring forth a continuous paean of thanks to his Maker for having chosen him as the instrument whereby multitudes who had worshipped idols and unclean things had become the people of God."
Saint Patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. It is true there are no snakes in Ireland, but there probably never have been - the island was separated from the rest of the continent at the end of the Ice Age. As in many old pagan religions, serpent symbols were common and often worshipped. Driving the snakes from Ireland was probably symbolic of putting an end to that pagan practice. While not the first to bring christianity to Ireland, it is Patrick who is said to have encountered the Druids at Tara and abolished their pagan rites. The story holds that he converted the warrior chiefs and princes, baptizing them and thousands of their subjects in the "Holy Wells" that still bear this name.
There are several accounts of Saint Patrick's death. One says that Patrick died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, on March 17, 460 A.D. His jawbone was preserved in a silver shrine and was often requested in times of childbirth, epileptic fits, and as a preservative against the "evil eye." Another account says that St. Patrick ended his days at Glastonbury, England and was buried there. The Chapel of St. Patrick still exists as part of Glastonbury Abbey. Today, many Catholic places of worship all around the world are named after St. Patrick, including cathedrals in New York and Dublin cityWhy Saint Patrick's Day?
Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.
In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!
*Why didnt I learn this in school, along with "seperation of church and state" never really being in the constitution?
Dont let the shift change in our culture affect what you think.
If you know me, than your thinking what happened to her? Im preparing myself for a totally new mindset about dresses. I realized today that I really dont hate wearing dresses, I just hate the thought of wearing/buying one. I think its just an insecurity, that I just never overcame. Most of my friends are fine with wearing them, and I totally support them, I am just not confident with wearing them. I am going to overcome it!
So today was a good day. I called about getting a new phone so its on its way. Thank you cingular representative mike. A few of us Mc'rs got the opportunity to spread dirt today. It was fun!! Overall its been a great week, just kind of busy. I am excited about VBS tonight!! Go Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba Blue Broncos!!!
So today has been a good day! Ashley drew her first design, in a long time, during morning prayer. i thought it was cool that our God is a god, who doesnt move and act by routine. God doesnt do the same thing in me, that he does in Rachael. He doesnt do the same thing with Ashley as he does Belinda. I used to write songs. It was like a devotion to God. Since I moved to Oklahoma City, I havent written any. Since God has given me this talent I need to use it. Whether its just a song a month, or a poem every couple of weeks, Im doing it.
This week Vacation Bible School started, here at Destiny. Welcome to Avalanche Ranch!! Yee-Haw!!
God is doing great things in the lives of the kids. I am the team leader for the Blue Broncos. Its exciting, and I have made tons of new friends. This is going to be a great week!!!
Ephesians 4
Unity in the Body
1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift[a] through the generosity of Christ. 8 That is why the Scriptures say,
“When he ascended to the heights,
he led a crowd of captives
and gave gifts to his people.”[b]
9 Notice that it says “he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.[c] 10 And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.
11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
Living as Children of Light
17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”[d] Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. 29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,[e] guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
I have heard that its easiest to remember scripture while you are driving, and when your in the shower?
Today has been a great day! Last nights service was great. God has really been showing me alot about worship. One of the things that I always try to remember is how important it is to worship when things get bad. Not that we should only worship then, we should worship at all times. Worship is the way we live our lives. I want to leave a mark on my generation. I want to go beyond the normal, and point to God in everything I do. Thank you Lord for your love!!!
I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
At such'n'such ... it wouldn't matter much
I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights
We all need an 'Atta boy' or 'Atta girl'
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy
I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthly list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon enough destroy
Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred
Just want to hear instead, "Well Done" good and faithful one...
The gateway to New Mexico "Tucumcari", was awesome! It was great seeing all my family and friends. My brother David graduated, and it was cool seeing him accomplish such a great accomplishment. We has a service there on Sunday. Today Pastor Nathan had a class and it was cool. It really hit home for me, as well as everyone else I think. He talked about being "IN" Adam. How he loves distance, how he is stubborn, how he is offended easily, and how he knows the prince of the world, and how he is a complainer. Adam sounds alot like me. There has been alot on my mind today. I can either make the best of it, or I can complain about how everything stinks and I can get well nowhere... I think I will be positive. Pastor Nathan talked about how we need to be "IN" Jesus. You can probably think of the many things Jesus did. How he asked God to forgive those who persecuted him. He sounds like a winner to me. Dont let little things of life, highjack your future. In Christ alone, I place my trust.......
This weekend we had a service in my hometown. Also known as the "gateway to new mexico". It was exciting and I was very nervous, like always the food was good, and I enjoyed getting to see everyone. I went down early for my brother David's graduation so that was fun. I got to see family I havent seen in a while, and my extended church family. They have been really awesome to me, I am trully blessed with the people that are in my life. I got Sharayah while she was asleep though it was awesome!!! My dad has a sweet drum set in the living room, and so while she was asleep i hit the largest cymbal as loud as I could, and she woke up. She got me back later though. Belinda thought it was hilarious though. I am excited about this week and what God is going to do through these next few weeks. Praise God!!!
Today has been different. It has been a good day but it has been a different day. I like different days most of the time, because that means variety, and variety is good. Today in Pastor Lawrences class we learned that there is a very very important molecule in our body called Laminin. The molecule actually holds our cells and molecules together. With out it, our molecules would just fall to pieces. It was really cool. If you google this molecule you will find that every structure shown is in the shape of a cross. We have a visionary on the team, yes her name is Chantel. She has this amazing gift at seeing the things that we see as small and she makes those things come to life in your mind. She had us write out our goals, and for the first time I actually enjoyed it. They always made us do this in school, and it was so boring! Its so much cooler when we know that anything is possible with God. I am going to David's (My brother) graduation tommorrow, and Im super stoked about it. A few of my friends are also graduating. I cant wait to see family, and visit for the weekend. PLUS we have a service on Sunday at my home church. Yeah!!
on the road again.... This afternoon we are headed to Pampa, Tx. (Yaaaa!!) I am very excited to see how the service goes. God has alot planned for this week. Here lately I have been realizing how lucky I am to have the people in my life that I do. I am very blessed with family and friends. Being in Masters Commission, I have became really close with the people around me. I miss my family (and all the extended family) but God blessed me with all the people here who really just stepped out and encouraged me, even when they barely knew me. Thank you God for all the people in my life. ;)
